THE SHORT ANSWER

What does it mean?

Use only non-chlorine (oxygen-based) bleach when needed; do not use chlorine bleach.

01 / HOW TO IDENTIFY IT

Match the shape, not just the words.

Look for a triangle. An empty triangle, two diagonal strokes inside it, or a large cross over it have different meanings.

The triangle containing two diagonal lines is the important distinction: oxygen or other non-chlorine bleaching agents may be used, but chlorine bleach is excluded.

02 / WHAT TO DO

The practical decision.

Check detergent packaging for bleaching ingredients rather than relying on product colour or marketing terms. The rest of the care label can still restrict washing temperature and treatment.

Do not skip this detail

Chlorine bleach is not permitted and may harm dyes, fibres or finishes.

03 / WHAT PEOPLE CONFUSE

One small detail changes the meaning.

An empty triangle permits a broader class of bleach; a crossed triangle prohibits bleaching altogether.

04 / AFTER YOU IDENTIFY IT

Check the rest of the tag.

The washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional-care instructions work together. This page interprets one symbol only; a blank or unreadable mark does not grant permission for any other treatment.

Never replace the maker’s written instructions with a guess based only on material composition or appearance. Read the complete care-label method.
