THE SHORT ANSWER

What does it mean?

Chlorine or non-chlorine bleach may be used when needed and suitable for the garment.

01 / HOW TO IDENTIFY IT

Match the shape, not just the words.

Look for a triangle. An empty triangle, two diagonal strokes inside it, or a large cross over it have different meanings.

An unmarked triangle permits bleaching agents of the appropriate type when bleaching is necessary. It does not mean that bleach should be added to every wash.

02 / WHAT TO DO

The practical decision.

Read the bleach product directions and consider the garment colour and any written limitations. Permission to bleach does not authorize excessive concentration or unsupported stain-removal techniques.

Do not skip this detail

Bleach is optional, not required; follow the product directions and test colourfastness when appropriate.

03 / WHAT PEOPLE CONFUSE

One small detail changes the meaning.

Two diagonal lines in the triangle instead permit oxygen/non-chlorine bleach only.

04 / AFTER YOU IDENTIFY IT

Check the rest of the tag.

The washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional-care instructions work together. This page interprets one symbol only; a blank or unreadable mark does not grant permission for any other treatment.

Never replace the maker’s written instructions with a guess based only on material composition or appearance. Read the complete care-label method.
