01 / EDITORIAL NOTE

International reference

ISO 3758:2023 (fourth edition, December 2023) establishes the graphic care-label system. The GINETEX public symbol guide contains accessible meanings and newer ironing limits. Paid full-text material is not reproduced.

02 / EDITORIAL NOTE

United States reference

The app’s U.S. reference is the publicly accessible FTC-hosted historical ASTM D5489-96c care chart. ASTM D5489-25 is the active new edition; the full paid edition has not been licensed or imported. Users must not assume they are identical.

03 / EDITORIAL NOTE

Illustration licensing

GINETEX states that the care symbols are protected trademarks in many countries and reproduction or use, including educational and website use, can require a license. Original redrawings do not automatically remove this legal question. Commercial publication should be legally reviewed.

Editorial process

The source snapshot was checked on 1 November 2026. The app is deterministic and locally executed. Missing symbols and safety limits

When a treatment symbol is missing, it stays unknown. Maximum permitted temperature is not a recommendation to always use that setting. Professional wet cleaning is not the same as home machine washing. Garment labels and written maker instructions take priority.

Correction reporting

If a mark appears wrong, use the form below to prepare a local downloadable correction report. No data is sent to Check The Tag because the static site does not include a submission service.

Care marks describe permitted treatments for the finished article, not a guarantee of results. Some standards require purchase and the illustrations here are independent teaching representations. Read the evidence and licensing limits.
