01 / BEFORE YOU START
Read the sewn-in care label first.
Start with the care tag, not a universal “cold wash only” slogan. Turn inside out when helpful for surface abrasion, separate rough fasteners and check any product-specific detergent instructions.
02 / DRYING & SHAPE
The step that can change a garment.
Heat-sensitive elastic or bonded details can be a reason for low-temperature or no-tumble instructions. However, waterproof shells sometimes specifically benefit from controlled drying when the maker permits it.
03 / COMMON MISTAKE
What not to assume.
Do not apply one rule to all technical gear. A DWR-treated jacket can have different wash and dryer instructions from compression leggings; Patagonia documents garment-specific drying steps for shells.
04 / MATCH YOUR MARKS
Care symbols worth checking.
Only the garment's own symbols and manufacturer instructions can establish permitted temperatures, cycles or drying methods. This material article is not a personalized safety guarantee.
