TROUBLESHOOTING / UNKNOWN TAGS

Missing or unreadable laundry symbols: what to do.

A missing symbol is not proof that a treatment is allowed. When a label is partly faded or cut off, use written maker instructions, garment information and professional advice rather than reconstructing permissions from guesses.

PRACTICAL, NOT MIRACLE CLAIMSSOURCES BELOW
Interpret a garment label

01 / FIELD NOTE

Look for more than one label

Some garments have a side-seam care label and a separate composition label. Check removable components and manufacturer-provided care instructions.

02 / FIELD NOTE

Do not fill in invisible marks

If the dryer symbol is absent or too damaged to read, mark machine drying as unknown. The decoder intentionally leaves treatment categories incomplete.

03 / FIELD NOTE

Use photo magnification, not unsupported auto-recognition

A zoomed image may help you distinguish an underline, dot or diagonal stroke. Camera quality and folds can produce misleading shapes, so the final selection must be confirmed manually.

04 / FIELD NOTE

Ask for verified care details

For a valuable or unusual item, contact the manufacturer or a textile-care professional with a readable photo of the complete tag.
